Microsoft Mexico Confirms Official Windows 10 Mobile Launch For February 29 2016
Been a while since we’ve heard anything regarding the Windows 10 Mobile launch, but this latest bit of intelligence comes straight from Microsoft. The Mexican branch, thereof.
Previous reports had indicated that the software titan was planning to initiate the rollout by the middle of February, and this new confirmation ties right into those.
The Mexican subsidiary of the company revealed this in a recent post on Facebook, confirming that the new operating system will roll out for Windows Phone devices in the last week of this month — basically, the last day of the month.
Leap year too, an interesting choice of date.
That said, this is not the first time Microsoft has posted information regarding the Windows 10 Mobile rollout on its social accounts, and we all know how the previous ones panned out.
Which is to say that it is hard to trust this new date just yet.
Previous ones have been false alarm, as it all comes down to bug fixing for the mobile OS.
But if this date holds true, it certainly looks to be a staged rollout. Not all devices will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile on February 29 and only a few models will receive the new version at first, while others will get it at a later date.
As part of a second wave.
What this probably means is that if we do get a new build this week or next, it will probably be the penultimate version before the rollout is finally initiated.
Windows Insiders can then, hopefully, look forward to testing some Redstone builds of Windows 10 Mobile. Redstone, of course, being the next major refresh of the operating system due for arrival sometime in 2016.
